The Cottonwood Mall is the second largest mall in Albuquerque, but relatively new, comparing to other commercial attractions. This mall was opened in 1994 and it covers an area of 1,041,680 square feet on three levels of shops.
This mall is located in the west part of the town, at the intersection of Coors Blvd and 7 Bar Loop. Like many other malls owned by Simon Properties, this mall has everything for everyone. People with all levels of income can come and shop here. You can choose from 130 shops and services and 25 restaurants and eateries.
The main shops are Dillard's, JC Penney and Macy’s as anchor tenants, but you can also find Victoria’s Secret, Athletic Fitters and Old Navy. The food court, with its upside-down landscape of Albuquerque, the United Artists Theatre Cinema, and the worth-mentioning Depiction of the Rio Grande are clearly the main attractions of the mall. Moreover, this mall hosts an annual Book Fiesta, unique for the area.
It seems that this mall has a rich history, too. The name 'Cottonwood' Mall comes from a grant called 'Alameda Grant' (in Spanish, 'alameda' means 'cottonwood grove'), which was given by King Philip IV of Spain to a man called Francisco Montes Vigil, as a sign of gratitude for the services he made. At present it is located close to Paradise Hills Golf Club and Planet Fun. The mall has an affinity for families, as it boasts a baby changing station, a kids soft play area, Simon Kidgits Club and offers to possibility to rent strollers. Although the mall doesn’t provide valet parking services, there are plenty of parking spaces.
The mall opens from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. People interested in job openings at Cottonwood Mall can visit http://www.simon.com/mall/default.aspx?ID=214 for more information.
